Testing yourself for COVID-19 is a great way to prevent the spread of the disease, but when is the best time to test is not always obvious.
Test yourself as soon as you are experiencing one of the symptoms associated with COVID-19. Getting your results sooner could also mean that you could get access to Paxlovid faster (5). Paxlovid is intended to reduce the severity of COVID symptoms for people at higher risk of complications (6). If you get a positive COVID test, contact your pharmacist as soon as possible to know if you are eligible for Paxlovid.
If you have been in contact with a confirmed positive case, testing right away might not give accurate results. In this case, timing is key, especially if you don’t have symptoms (4).
Going out? Testing can also be used before visiting someone, especially those at higher risk, as a precautionary measure (4).
