La recherche sur la dĂ©sinformation, c’est important !

La majoritĂ© des Canadien·nes et des AmĂ©ricain·es s’inquiĂštent de la dĂ©sinformation (1,2).
Mais plus tĂŽt cette annĂ©e, une action prĂ©sidentielle aux États-Unis a mis fin au soutien de la National Science Foundation (NSF) pour la recherche sur la dĂ©sinformation, en affirmant que cela nuirait Ă  la libertĂ© d’expression (3–6). 🛑

Cette recherche est cruciale. Et la limiter peut faire du tort.

À l’échelle individuelle, la dĂ©sinformation peut entraĂźner une perte de confiance, du stress, de la confusion et mĂȘme des dommages physiques (7–17). 😟
Collectivement, elle nuit Ă  la santĂ© publique, Ă  l’économie, Ă  la dĂ©mocratie, et alimente violence et discrimination (7,8,12,15–25). ⚠

La désinformation est étudiée dans plusieurs disciplines : informatique, droit, politique, économie, sciences sociales (16,26).
Ces recherches nous aident à comprendre comment les fausses infos circulent, comment elles nous affectent et comment les contrer (16,26,27). 🔍
Couper leur financement, c’est couper des solutions.

Et non, faire de la recherche sur la dĂ©sinformation ne brime pas la libertĂ© d’expression (3,4).
La majoritĂ© des interventions basĂ©es sur les donnĂ©es visent Ă  mieux outiller les internautes — sans supprimer de publications (17,28,29). đŸ™…â€â™€ïž
ModĂ©rer les fausses infos en ligne (soutenu par la majoritĂ© des AmĂ©ricain·es, malgrĂ© une lĂ©gĂšre baisse dans les derniĂšres annĂ©es) n’est qu’un outil parmi d’autres (30–32). đŸ› ïž
