A media assessment of HBV posts on Instagram highlights the profitability dimension of misinformation. While most HBV posts analyzed were accurate (77%), the majority of posts with claims about HBV treatments and cures contained misinformation. Posts with misinformation were significantly more aligned with generating profits (e.g. explicit advertising or product selling) than accurate posts.
