Have you heard about pouches, the nicotine product that was approved by Health Canada?
Packaged in colourful containers and using enticing flavours, these types of products are packaged in a manner that has been proven to appeal to younger consumers (31,32). Plus, because of regulation gaps, these nicotine products can technically be sold legally to underage individuals.
In Quebec, the sale of such products will follow the regulation respecting the terms and conditions for the sale of medications. Therefore, nicotine pouches will only be sold in pharmacies, in a section open to the public but under the control and supervision of a pharmacist (43).
Talk with your children about these products and their safety risks. Let them know that nicotine, in any form, is dangerous for their developing brain.
