Psychedelics and Therapy

Share:

Magic mushrooms to treat depression and MDMA to address post-traumatic stress disorder? Psychedelic research is having a moment again after decades of stigma which made advances in the field difficult.

There has been an increased interest in compounds like psilocybin, ketamine, MDMA, and LSD, specifically their ability, when administered with psychological support, to help treat certain mental disorders. There have been some encouraging results in addressing substance use disorders, depression, PTSD, existential distress due to advanced or terminal illness, eating disorders, and potentially for other health issues like chronic pain and headaches, traumatic brain injury, and neurocognitive disorders.

A trained professional supports the participant through these sessions where the dosage would be high enough to have a psychedelic experience, which is different from microdosing (taking sub-threshold doses).
