Vapes might be less harmful than traditional cigarettes and might help smokers quit smoking, but they are not safe, especially for individuals younger than 25 years old.
Plus, much is still unknown about their long term effects. Remember, lung cancer was considered a very rare disease before the growing popularity of cigarettes, one that doctors might only see once in their career (34). Today, it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and leading cause of death from cancer in Canada (35,36).
Just like cigarettes, it might take a couple of years before we start seeing the long term effect of vaping or pouches on our health. Until then, caution toward any product marketed as a “healthier” alternative to cigarettes is best (1,37).
