Did you notice a change in your menstrual cycle after getting vaccinated?
A recent study collected data from 39,000 menstruating or formerly menstruating people. The study found more than half of participants experienced changes in their bleeding pattern.
Note: this study did not include a control group of unvaccinated people. It means that we can’t conclude that these variations are 100% due to the vaccine yet, especially since slight variation in cycle length, and bleeding are normal. But the study’s findings are similar to the findings of other smaller studies.
It’s important to note that these changes are temporary. There is also no evidence of the vaccine affecting fertility.
Listening to patients’ experiences makes research better. And being transparent about potential side effects can reduce hesitancy around vaccines.
Looking out for unusual patterns in your menstrual cycle is important as it could indicate a more serious issue. If you notice anything out of the ordinary in your menstrual cycle, take note of it, and talk to a healthcare provider.
