Second boosters are now strongly recommended for adults over 80 and people living in long-term care.
“When will the second boosters be available to everyone?”
Safety and efficacy are important, but are not the only factors that experts consider before recommending booster doses.
Case counts, ICU admissions, availability of other public health measures, and the potential emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants are some of the other considerations that impact decision making on boosters.
Ultimately, Canada will recommend additional boosters if they are part of an evidence-based public health initiative to combat a growing burden of COVID-19. This could happen soon, to tackle rising BA.2 cases, or later on, for future waves.

What’s the deal with second boosters?
They might be around the corner for more people, but there’s still a lot to do to get more people their first booster (aka 3rd dose for most).
