Across Canada COVID cases are back on the rise (1). ♂️
This is largely due to the BA.2 variant and low booster coverage (2).
No one is happy about a 6th wave (3), so what can we do to reduce the spread and subsequent strain on our healthcare systems?
Mandates can change! Quebec was planning to lift their mask mandate in mid-April, but the government has decided to postpone their decision at least until the end of the month, after advocacy from health experts across the province (4).
Consider writing to your government officials that you want protective measures reinstated to reflect the current situation.
The onus should not fall on individuals alone BUT we want you to be protected. So, what can you do?
- Get boosted
- Mask up indoors
- Space out the time between gatherings. Consider your risk budget
- Take it outside/ventilate your space
- If you are sick, stay home
Sadly, this isn’t our first rodeo. We know how to reduce risk. But, it’s been a longggg 2+ years, it’s understandable that pandemic fatigue can kick in (5). Don’t give up! Your actions matter.

Cases in many parts of Canada are on the rise
And, because testing is so limited right now, most case graphs tell only part of the story.
So what do we do about it? #ScienceUpFirst
