The WHO has declared Monkeypox a public health emergency

Share:

Monkeypox is definitely not chickenpox.

Since August 16, 2022 there have been over 36,000 confirmed cases and 12 deaths worldwide. In Canada, 89% of all cases are found in Ontario (511 cases) and Québec (426 cases).

The waning generational immunity from the smallpox, now that vaccination against it is no longer used, may be contributing to the current outbreaks.

While generally mild and self-limited, monkeypox can make some individuals very sick, some may even die from it. Hence it is important to know its symptoms, and how it is transmitted to prevent its spread.

People at higher risk, and anyone living in close proximity with an infected person should take extra care to protect themselves.
